When I was about 3, I got diabetes. In that year, I was infected by the Coxsakie virus, but the doctor made an erroneous diagnosis of it as a common cold. After symptoms of eating more, drinking more and urinating more appeared, my life had a tremendous change – I must associate with diabetes and fight it throughout my life.
At dawn everyday, my mother will take out insulin from the refrigerator. She puts it on the palms of both hands and rubs it repeatedly until the temperature of her palms is delivered into the insulin. Then she injects the insulin into my body while I am still dreaming. Although it is a little hurt, I feel my mother’s love passed into my whole body through insulin at that moment. Suddenly the pain is nothing to me at all!
The treatment and control of diabetes is a long road. Except for long-term injection and medication, diet is the key factor. I envy my classmates whenever I see them unlimitedly eat nutritional lunch, fast food and desserts. I have to measure my blood sugar every time I return home. There was one time my blood sugar reached higher than 600, my mother was very nervous. Thus she followed the doctor’s indication and asked me to start sustained exercise.
On January 14 this year, my father helped me to sign up for the push-up competition held by the city government. I was the shortest player, but unexpectedly I defeated all the adult competitors and became the champion.
I never imagined that I would swim in order to control diabetes which makes me have better physical strength than general people in the long run.
My friend often asked me: “why do you look so happy? You seem to have endless vitality.” I have a feeling that people need to be like grass-- not afraid of difficulties.
